Volunteer Roles
Each Little League team needs parent volunteers to run and organize. Parents make baseball and softball possible for our kids, and the Little League wouldn’t exist without them. We appreciate your continued support to make the Dobbs Ferry Youth Little League one of the best community experiences!
We welcome all of our head coaches, assistant coaches and team managers to help organize and run our practices however per District 20 baseball and softball rules, only three coaches or managers are allowed inside the field or in the dugout during a game.
What’s required of Volunteers?
1) Every on field or off field volunteer in the DFYLL must complete a background check before gaining clearance to perform a role in the league. The background check is good for one year.
Here is a summary of the roles required for each team:
Team Manager
This GM coordinates practice and game schedules with opposing teams, manages attendance, ensures umpires are paid, handles team-wide communication, and ensures sufficient coaching presence. The manager can also keep the kids focused and engaged in the dugout, keep the kids in the dugout, and optionally provide drinks and snacks for the team. It’s an active, on-field and dugout role, but not a coaching role.
Active team managers are eligible for a 50% discount off their first player's registration in the spring season upon request in June.
Head Coach
The head coach oversees the team’s on-field operations, creating game day lineups, organizing practice plans, and scheduling practices and games with the team manager. This non-coaching role helps keep the dugouts organized, keep kids in the dugout during games, and players focused and engaged. They can also provide snacks and drinks in the dugout. This is an active, on-field role.
Active head coaches are eligible for a 50% discount off their first player's registration in the spring season upon request in June.

The assistant coaches, who support the head coach, run practices, and may step in as head coach if needed. This is an active, on-field role.
Scoreboard Operator (Memorial Park)
This volunteer role requires a parent to keep score on the scoreboard during Memorial Park games. We need one volunteer per home game. The scoreboard is operated via an app on your mobile device and a Bluetooth connection.
Scorekeeper via GameChanger
This volunteer can also be the same as the team manager. We ask our head and assistant coaches to focus on coaching the game on the field, while this volunteer keeps score in GameChanger. This role is crucial for transparency and pitch count tracking, especially in baseball. It allows families and remote viewers to follow the game on their mobile devices and stream real-time video as well.
Concession Stand Volunteer (Memorial Park)
We are looking for volunteers from every team to help the DFYLL run and organize the concession stand during your team's home games. Volunteers for this role will be reached out to by the league's Concession Stand coordinator to schedule game coverage.
